This program offers a comprehensive life-skills training designed for youth and young adults ages 14 and older which covers a series of structured core competencies designed in preparation for a successful transition to adulthood. The curriculum utilization is from the Learning Inventory Skill Training (L.I.S.T) module in which the content emphasizes the acquisition of hard and soft skills through experiential learning and interactive activities. These domains include money management, food management, personal care, housing, transportation, emergency and safety skills, health & wellness, educational planning, job seeking skills, job maintenance skills, knowledge of community resources, interpersonal skills, legal skills, coping skills, anger management, relationships, pregnancy prevention, parenting and childcare.
Youth will receive training which focuses on the Six Pillars of Character Building. Youth will be able to learn, develop and enhance these skills in effort to grow personally and professional as a contributing member of society. The characteristics taught will includes: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.
This program is designed to help youth obtain, maintain, and excel at a new job. This would help youth develop good work habits that facilitate their on-going success. This would be achieved through using a career inventory tool, lectures, discussion, and role play exercises. Youth would also have the opportunity to connect with community employers to job shadow.
Youth will be trained to work on building relationships with community providers, health practitioners, mental health professionals, and educational counselors for personal growth and development.
